The Check, Connect, and Expect (CC&E) intervention being evaluated by the University of Washington Behavior Research Center (UWBRC) combines two interventions that have been found to be efficacious: the Check & Connect program (Sinclair, Christenson, Evelo, & Hurley, 1998) and the Behavior Education Program (Crone, Horner, & Hawken, 2004).

Both programs rely on the use of important practices that have theoretical and empirical support for students with or at risk of emotional disturbance. These include:

  1. Daily supervision and coaching
  2. Frequent feedback on academic and social performance
  3. Point systems that coach social goals
  4. Reinforcement for meeting criteria
  5. The use of a positive adult role model to support the student
  6. Social skills instruction when necessary
