CC&E Project Sample

The evaluation of the Check, Connect, and Expect program is being conducted in eighteen schools in three school districts, in Washington State. The eighteen schools were matched and randomly assigned to either intervention or comparison conditions. Thus, our study has nine intervention schools and nine comparison schools.

Demographics for schools and districts may be accessed by clicking on the links below.

In the spring and fall of 2005, teachers in grades K-3 in each school will identify an initial cohort of students with challenging behavior. To identify these students, teachers will use the Systematic Screening for Behavior Disorders (SSBD; Walker & Severson, 1992). Those students who teachers nominate and who they rate as meeting the criteria on behavior rating scales at Stage 2 of the SSBD will serve as the study's sample.

Parents will then be contacted and must agree through an informed consent process for their child to participate. We are projecting that about 400 students (200 in intervention and 200 in comparison) in kindergarten through fourth grade.

Participants will be selected from 18 schools in the following districts:

Evergreen School District

Highline School District

Renton School District
